Our Community
MVA gives back to the community in various ways.
Montessori Walk for Peace
We practice community engagement by sponsoring an annual Peace Walk during Montessori Education week, held in a local park each year. MVA invites former and current families and staff along with other local Montessori Schools. Attendees walk around a small lake holding posters promoting peace education. We also display posters about Montessori education, sing peace songs and form a large peace sign.
Pennies for Peace
As a whole community, our school is invited to participate annually in the “Pennies for Peace” program, in which children collect loose change which is then donated to provide educational opportunities for girls in poor communities in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.
Clean the World
Our upper elementary students participate in Service Week where they assist in various non-profit activities in the community, such as picking up trash at Lake Mead, Pittman’s Wash and at local parks. They also volunteer at “Clean the World” which recycles hotel soaps and donates them to those in need.
Community Service
MVA contributes locally through various fundraisers and participation in special events. Our upper elementary and adolescent community students volunteer in various industries around the community during their service week. During the Holiday Season, we host a Giving Tree, a Food Drive and a Clothing Drive in the school lobby. Students donate goods to distribute to Ronald McDonald House and Catholic Worker. The school holds two bake sales annually to raise money to support teacher expenses to attend the annual AMS conference.
